Accentuate Staffing is seeking a Senior Accountant to join a local nonprofit in Cary, NC.  The Senior Accountant will perform multiple functions to carry out necessary accounting and compliance requirements for multiple entities of varying business structure.  The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for the financial accounting and reporting for the Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA), and various other priorities as necessary.


  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes, including but not limited to bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and consolidation activities
  • Maintain the general ledger, including preparation of journal entries, processing of allocations, analysis of intercompany activity, and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Work closely with financial planning & analysis team to ensure accurate coding of transactions, appropriate recording of accruals, and to gain awareness of entity and departmental budgets
  • Play a key role in the accounting and financial management of Independent Care Health Benefit Trust and Company Administrators, related to establishing and maintaining the financial records for the Company’s MEWA operations
  • Assist the Accounting & Finance team in the selection and implementation of a new cloud-based Accounting Software solution
  • Perform accounting research, draw conclusions, and draft memos on appropriate treatment of transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and/or Statutory requirements
  • Support the annual financial audits and tax filings for all corporate entities
  • Analyze new financial contracts to ensure appropriate accounting and revenue recognition
  • Assist in monitoring and maintenance of internal controls and drafting of financial policies and procedures
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and IRS regulations
  • Ad hoc analyses, reporting, and special projects as needed
  • Other administrative functions as needed


  • BS in Accounting, Finance or related degree
  • 3+ years accounting experience with knowledge of both nonprofit and for-profit organizations
  • MEWA or similar experience preferred
  • Experience with Cloud-based Accounting Software Solutions such as NetSuite, Oracle, etc. preferred
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Experience in both public accounting and industry settings a plus
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Statutory requirements
  • Not-for-profit and for-profit accounting experience
  • Knowledge of MEWA or similar organization a plus
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment
  • Self-starter with solid organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities or reprioritization of projects
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
