
Controller
Accentuate Staffing is seeking a Controller (Construction) for a well established and growing Construction Company located in the Cary/Apex, NC area.
The Controller will be hands on and will also lead our financial operations while maintaining accuracy and providing strategic insight. This role sits at the center of the business – partnering closely with leadership and operations to ensure financial clarity and informed decision‑making.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Leads by example, exhibiting and integrating company values into the culture of the team.
- Manages and develops 4-5 team members, including hiring, training, mentoring, goal setting and reviewing performance.
Accounting & Financial Management
- Oversees all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger (GL), financial reporting, reconciliations, and close processes.
- Ensures the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of financial statements.
- Maintains internal controls and accounting policies.
- Works with teams to develop the organizational budget and executes the approved budget.
- Assists the VP of F&A with forecast development and managing the cash-flow position of the company.
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
- Owns and enhances construction accounting and job costing processes, including WIP reporting and project profitability analysis.
- Ensures accounting policies and systems support revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP.
- Partners with Operations to review project performance, budgets, cost variances, and helps ensure billings targets are met.
- Enables Operations to make financial decisions by ensuring financial information is accessible and understandable.
Tax & Compliance
- Manages and oversees sales & use tax reporting and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory, tax, and financial reporting requirements.
Systems & Process Optimization
- Utilizes and optimizes ERP and other software applications for financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Collaborates with other teams to ensure financial alignment with their processes and software tools.
- Proactively identifies and implements automation and process improvements.
Strategic Partnership
- Partners with VP of F&A on financial planning and strategic initiatives.
- Serves as a trusted financial advisor to leadership and managers, providing insights and wisdom into financial performance, cost control, and profitability.
- Assists with special projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (CPA or CCIFP preferred but not required).
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 5+ years of construction accounting.
- 5+ years of leadership/management experience.
- A proven record of effectively leading, managing, and developing team members.
- Strong expertise in job costing, WIP, financial close, budgeting, cash management, and forecasting.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Possesses a technology forward mindset and experience driving automation and systems optimization.
- Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information.
