Accentuate Staffing is currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant to join a local company in the Durham area. This position will be responsible for managing various financial reporting processes within the Accounting function.
Responsibilities:
1. Complete balance sheet, income statement, statement of surplus and analysis of operations by line of business during Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Statement preparation
2. Complete various exhibits and assist with notes to the financial statements during Quarterly and Annual Statement preparation
3. Pre- and post- monthly, quarterly and annual statement analyses
4. Create and maintain financial reports for upper management (including financial forecasts, budgets, competitive industry analyses and comparative statements)
5. Assist in preparation of audited financial statements, and Policyholders’ Annual Report
6. Prepare financial statements on statutory basis
7. Complete analyses and reports, including charts and graphs, for internal customers on an as needed basis
8. Develop methods of analyzing financial information for integrity
9. Analyze and monitor balance sheet accounts for validity and necessary reconciling journal entries
10. Implement cost allocation rules defined by cost allocation study using efficient reporting method(s)
11. Maintain Investment Portfolio oversight and serve as liaison with third party providers (custodians, and money managers)
12. Oversee Investment Accounting, including AVR and IMR maintenance and modeling.
13. Review schedules Schedule D, BA, A and E.
14. Review of Investment reports for both internal and external customers
15. Prepare monthly financial reporting package, including charts and graphs, for all invested assets (Yield, duration, percentage of invested assets)
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and CPA (preferably)
Minimum 5 years’ experience preferably within the insurance industry
Financial statement preparation and analysis
Application of codified accounting principles (statutory preferably, but GAAP at minimum)
Budget preparation and reporting
Corporate income tax, premium tax, experience (a plus, but not required)
Advanced analytical, organizational and computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, Crystal Reports, report writing software and database queries
